Different towns, different houses, different problems.

Suffolk covers a lot of ground and the housing stock changes as you move across it. That changes what a paint job actually involves.

In Smithtown, Commack and Nesconset, we're usually working on colonials and split levels from the 60s through the 80s — solid drywall, a lot of trim and doors, and interiors that haven't been repainted since the last owner. In Islip, Bay Shore, Babylon and Lindenhurst, proximity to the water shows up on the outside of the house: chalked siding, corroded fasteners and trim that fails on the exposed elevations first.

Head east into Brookhaven — Medford, Patchogue, Farmingville, Selden, Coram — and you get a wide mix, including a lot of homes bought by younger families who want the whole interior repainted before they move a single box in. Out toward Port Jefferson, Setauket and Stony Brook, older homes with plaster walls and layered oil-based trim need a different prep approach entirely.
